I own a carnival. The carnival was hit by a tornado in Parsons, Kansas April of 2000. I have rebuilt many of the rides, but I still had quite a bit of salvage. It took me 17 years, but I found a use for the sign off my concession trailer. I made this Reclaimed Carnival Sign Pallet Headboard. The total size of the bed frame is 82.5 x 69.5 and 78.5 x 18 for the sign. Each pallet was cleaned before I used them.

The bed frame around the sign is pallet lumber. The backlighting is upcycled LED carnival lighting. I used a router to tongue and groove the boards so they would appear mostly flat and even on the front. Then I used wood glue in the grooves and used small brads to secure. I usually like to leave the nail heads for appearance, but no one wants to end up with Tetanus from a good evening in bed, so I removed them. I detail-sanded with a drywall sponge (coarse) to make the boards smooth. The sponges don’t take away from the natural look and make the boards feel smooth to the touch with minimal effort. I added 5 LED lights and a switch on the back of the sign. It gives off a perfect glow. I was very happy with the final product.
