I made this Heirloom Pallet Trunk as a birthday gift. My friend wanted a hope chest or blanket chest at the end of her bed for bedding things. I added a pallet wood heart on the front as a decorative touch.
This Heirloom Pallet Trunk could double as a toy box (with safety hinges), and would look great anywhere!
This trunk was an easy project for me, but it may not be the best for a beginner. First, I formed the frame with 2″ x 4″ pallet stringers. I made a front and back frame, connected the two, and then cut the deck boards to cover the outside. I used glue and screw to attach everything. Make the top with several deck boards that you plane and glue together, or use a piece of finish plywood. I attached the lid using a full-length piano hinge and then added two ropes to prevent the top from slamming open.
This Heirloom Pallet Trunk will be something that the family will love for generations!
Then I added some crown molding trim boards along the bottom, mitering the corners. I did a light sanding to remove splinters, stained the piece, and then applied a varnish to seal. The heart was just a few scrap boards glued together, and then I used a jig saw to cut the shape out.
This pallet chest is a gift that the family will cherish! Now, how about a LED Lit Pallet Bed to go with this cool blanket chest?
