This first part of this project is a pallet planter box which will join on to another planter box that will together join another structure to look like a train in order to decorate a garden at a primary school. The children will learn and help with the rest of the project by painting and by assembling the train.

This planter box is a simple structure made only with repurposed pallet wood. To build it, I’ve used 6 pallet planks measuring approximately 35 cm (13.78 inches) for the ends, 6 pallet planks measuring approximately 90 cm (35.43 inches) for the sides and 8 pallet planks measuring 36 cm (14.17 inches) for the corners to join the frame together.

Each of the 3 plank measurement is joined to 2 corner pieces leaving approx 2 cm (0.79 inches) space at each edge which is the thickness of the wood. Then, I joined all the corners together. I used 35 mm (0.08 inches) nails and a good old hammer.

Once the frame has been assembled turn it upside down and place 8 pieces of planks measuring approximately 35 cm (13.78 inches) each across the width of the box and nail into place leaving space in between each one to allow for drainage. Now you have a solid planter box out of reclaimed wood pallet planks.
