Following our various posts presenting some bars to dismantle pallets (here and there), we always have many requests for advice on these tools, and you always ask us where to buy them.
So we decided to kill two birds with one stone and to provide you with a comparison of a selection of the commercial tools that are available together with the links to buy them.
Focus on models that bring ingenious solutions with prices oscillating between 35 and 150 dollars. The order of the products does not correspond to our order of preference. It is just indicative.
Review of the Duckbill Deck Wrecker
You can find plenty deck wreckers. We can highlight the Duckbill Deck Wrecker or the simple Cats Paw Deck Wrecker. They hit the right note, but are rigid, and teeth are often narrow and/or short. So they have good ratings, on THD or Amazon, but they will be more likely to break the planks (what they are meant to do…) while what we are looking for right here is to be able to remove the wooden boards as cleanly as possible without breaking them. As a consequence, depending on the pallet type and quality, using these tools can easily break the wooden boards and be counterproductive.
Le Cats Paw Deck Wrecker is one of the cheapest and is sold around 50$ (on TDH, while strangely, it’s around US$100 on Amazon). The Duckbill Deck Wrecker is sold around US$75 and seems a better choice for us. We do not use this type of tool since half of the board can break while dismantling our pallets. Here below is a short video using the Duckbill:
Review of the Roughneck Demolition & Lifting Bar
This one is one of the cheapest we found. It has all the basic elements to do the job. The longer forks will help not to break the boards (compared to the previous model). It is sold around US$30 (delivery included).
Review of the Bull Bar™ by Crescent®
This one has a truly interesting feature: the variable angle between the teeth and the handle. Innovation and uniqueness have a cost since the product is sold almost 100 dollars! This feature will help in not breaking the board while dismantling your pallet. We also love the integrated nail remover!
Review of the Vestil SKB-DLX
This product is our favorite because of its peculiarities and represents in our opinion the best compromise. The Vestil SKB-DLX provides its two supports not on one point on either side, but on four rules (coupled in pairs). As a result, the wood is much less marked, and the boards are less likely to break. Moreover, it is one of the only ones to offer an angle of work close to 90 ° which in use is better for small spaces and the back of the handyman.
It also has a very ingenious rotary system you will notice in the video. The Vestil SKB-DLX is the one we advise since it’s the best tradeoff for us. It is sold around 80 dollars.
Comparative of all pallet busters
As a conclusion here is a summary of all the dismantling bars, we’ve compared. If you are using another model that is worth being here, or if you made your own, we’d be interested in sharing your tutorial here, so that the other crafters can make one on their own.
